Serving Others Honors Christ

This is an excerpt from a sermon I wrote before I asked our church to do a week of community service this past spring.Still holds true today.

Matthew 25:40 (New King James Version)40 And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’
Look at this text closely. The King says, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren you did it to me. What is the it? Inasmuch as you served a warm meal you served a warm meal to the King. Inasmuch as you gave somebody shoes, you gave shoes to the King. Inasmuch as you provided a warm bed, you gave the King a warm bed. Inasmuch as you provided a helping hand, a warm embrace, a generous hug, a loving smile, a chance to relax, a place to readjust, a season for repositioning, a place for prayer, a cool glass of water, you did the same to the King.
EMILY DICKINSON:
If I can stop one heart from breaking,
I shall not live in vain.
If I can ease one life the aching,
Or cool one pain,
Or help one fainting robin
Unto his nest again,
I shall not live in vain.
