What is in a Name?
According to Yahoo! The New NBA franchise in Oklahoma City is going to be named either the Barons, Bisons, Marshall, Thunder or Wind. Read More About it Here. What is in a name? My church is called Calvary. When we traveled to the Holy Land this year I rediscovered that Calvary meant "skull". So I have visions of a new church logo that includes some skull and cross bones. What do you think? Maybe we could get a big skull and cross bones on the back of a leather jacket with the motto: Deny Self, Take Up Cross, Follow Jesus! That would be great for a Harley Motorcycle Christian group right? Hey, it's early in the morning, what else would I write, right?

I want to know how will the skull and cross logo work for our church, when we have some of our congregation tearing down the youth wearing clothes similar to what you said we should have as an new logo?.
They are against it now. Do you think they will be against this later?
Most of the older people in the congregation believes that the youth is bringing evil in the house of God. NOT only do they show dislike of what the youth are wearing, they also tell the youth NOT to wear it in the house of the Lord because it doesn't represent God or our church.
The youth will become confused if one minute it's not Godly or appropriate to wear skull logo's to church, then on the other hand it's okay now to wear it because of what the church is representing it as.
Now I'm all for it because I don't have a problem with the youth wearing it in the first place. It's all about How you wear it!
It doesn't make them evil or evil doers inside or outside of the church. Their actions and the decisions they make in every day life can make them become this way.
If I'm wrong please feel free to correct me.
I just want to help send the youth and the older (set in their ways) people the right message.
My view is like this-- God said "Come as you are" - not what you wear or who you are representing during the time you are in his house of the Lord.
His goal is for us to save lives not destroy them or deteriate their selfesteem.
We don't want to give the youth mixed messages do we?
Why can't they wear it on their belts or on their shoes or shirts etc?
Why is it okay to wear it if they are in a christian bike club?
Please key me in because I don't want to be confused or give my children the wrong message about how they dress and what it represents in the house of the Lord to others.
I want them to continue to be respectful inside and outside the house of God and continue to hold on to their beliefs by the bible not by the F.D.P.C Department, (Fashion Discourager Police of Congregation).
I don't want the youth to stop praising Him or coming to church and having their beliefs destroyed over -- What they are wearing --Is not God and they are representives of evil doers if they wear it in the church of God".
Maybe this should be a sermon Rev. G. They need to know what Calvary stands for, what it means and why is it so inportant for them to know "What is in a Name?"
I might not be the only one who wants to know this.
Cross logo's- represents God and Christians
Skull Logo's- represents THE DEVIL and Evil doers

Good v.s. Bad
I say, once you get the people of Calvary to understand where you come from and why this is a good idea they will be all for it to a certain degree.
I'm speaking for me and my point of view- I say go for it and lets rock the house with new ideas to keep eveything spicy for the saved and unsaved, the weak ones to become stronger to edify our church and unify our christians.
We suppose to be on one accord and organized, not various strings being detached and broken.

First let me thank you for your comment. My post was an attempt at humor. However, The skull is what Calvary means. In other words, if I told a believer in Jerusalem during the book of Acts, they would tell me I pastor skull baptist church. That was the irony in the blog. I pastor Calvary [which means skull] Baptist Church. So our logo could match our name. Jesus was crucified at a place called the skull, Calvary. [Please read Matthew 27:33]. Now I believe the early Christians in Rome met in the Catacombs. The catacombs was the graveyard under the city in caves. So the early church met where there were skull and cross bones. Just because a modern day motorcycle group took it for their logo doesn't mean a church couldn't reclaim it for its own. Just a thought. It could create questions that could lead to witnessing opportunities.
